The 30-year-old Lichfield rider had recognised that his biggest challenge would be to stay focused at the North Yorkshire circuit, which is one of his favourite venues. "It's getting to the business end of the season now and you can't let up for a second or someone will be there to capitalise straight away," said Mason prior to the race. He added; "The speed around Croft means that the adrenaline gets going but you need to temper that and make sure you race well and focus rather than just being reckless”.
Having qualified sixth on the superbike grid, eight places ahead of his closest Cup rival Peter Hickman on the Ultimate Yamaha, Gary took the Superbike Cup victory from Hickman and Tommy Bridewell in race one. In race two he wrapped up the Superbike Cup, with NB Suzuki's Tommy Bridewell and Peter Hickman swopping places for second and third respectively.
His double podium at Croft brings Mason’s total number of wins to 17 this season, from a possible 21, giving him an unassailable lead of more than 125 points in the privateer's cup and with it the title. Although this is Gary’s first Superbike Cup, it is the second time that Quay Garage Racing has lifted the prize since their first place in 2005. Q8oils, meanwhile, have supported the Championship-winning superbike riders in 2005 and 2006 as well.
BSB moves to Silverstone (25 – 27 September) prior to the final round at Oulton Park in October. The lubricants used by Quay Garage Honda are blended in Q8Oils' purpose-built plant in Leeds, just like the Q8Oils range of MOTO SBK oils that are available to road riders.
